Arm squeeze could save breast reconstruction tissue

NCT ID NCT07487220

Summary

This study tested whether a simple, non-invasive technique called Remote Ischemic Conditioning (RIC) could improve outcomes for patients undergoing breast reconstruction with transplanted tissue flaps. RIC involves briefly squeezing and releasing blood flow in an arm before surgery, which may help protect the transplanted tissue from damage when its blood supply is reconnected. The goal was to see if this technique improves blood flow to the new tissue, reduces complications, and helps the flap survive.
