New coated nail aims to cut infection risk in broken legs

Summary
This study tests a new type of metal rod (nail) coated with a noble metal alloy that is placed inside the shinbone to fix a broken leg. The goal is to see if this coated nail reduces the chance of infection compared to standard uncoated nails. About 500 adults with severe open fractures will take part. Results will be checked one year after surgery.
