Gas inhalation trial aims to stop deadly Post-Surgery pneumonia

NCT ID NCT06261827

Summary

This study tested whether inhaling high-dose nitric oxide gas could prevent hospital-acquired pneumonia in patients after major heart surgery. It involved 160 patients who had surgery using a heart-lung machine. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either the nitric oxide treatment or a sham treatment for five days after their operation to see if it reduced lung infections.
