New study aims to uncover why some newborns bleed from the bottom

NCT ID NCT06088537

First seen Jan 24, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looks at 40 newborns with isolated rectal bleeding to see how many have a cow's milk protein allergy versus a temporary condition called transient neonatal colitis. Researchers will track whether bleeding stops when milk proteins are removed and returns when reintroduced. The goal is to help doctors tell the difference and avoid unnecessary treatments.
