Breakthrough Finger-Prick test could save children from devastating brain infection

NCT ID NCT04308928

Summary

This study aimed to create a faster, simpler test to diagnose tuberculosis meningitis (TBM), a severe and often fatal brain infection in children. Researchers tested over 300 children to identify specific 'biomarker' signals in blood or spinal fluid that indicate the disease. The goal was to develop a point-of-care test, like a finger-prick, to give quick results in clinics with limited resources, replacing slow and complex current methods.
