New surgical approach aims to reduce complications in bowel surgery
NCT ID NCT07278687
Summary
This study compared a newer surgical technique to a traditional one for patients with ulcerative colitis or familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) who needed a specific bowel pouch surgery. The newer method uses an additional access point through the anus to give the surgeon better control and visibility during the operation. Researchers wanted to see if this approach led to fewer patients needing their surgery converted to a larger 'open' procedure, fewer leaks at the surgical connection, and better overall recovery and bowel function.
