New Cheese-Derived protein powders could make PKU diet easier
NCT ID NCT06941532
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing four new powdered protein substitutes made from a milk protein called GMP for people with PKU and tyrosinemia. These conditions require a special low-protein diet, and current formulas can be hard to tolerate. Over 29 days, researchers will check how well 40 adults and children accept the taste, handle digestion, and stick with the new product. The goal is to see if these GMP-based powders are a safe and more pleasant option for daily use.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
GMP-based powdered protein substitute
What this could lead to
If successful, these new protein substitutes could offer a better-tasting, more tolerable option for managing PKU and tyrosinemia, potentially improving diet compliance.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early case series with only 40 participants over 29 days, so results may not apply to everyone. The products may cause gastrointestinal side effects or not be preferred by all patients.
