New vaccine aims to outperform standard shot for older adults

NCT ID NCT05569954

Summary

This study tested a new vaccine called V116 designed to protect against pneumococcal disease, which can cause pneumonia and other serious infections. It was compared directly to an existing vaccine (PPSV23) in over 1,400 adults aged 50 and older who had never received a pneumococcal vaccine before. The main goals were to see if V116 was as safe and if it triggered a stronger immune response against more strains of the bacteria than the current standard shot.
