New scan could spot hidden pancreatic cancer spread
NCT ID NCT07217717
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This phase 3 trial is testing a new type of PET scan that uses a radioactive tracer called [18F]FAPI-74 to detect whether pancreatic cancer has spread to other parts of the body. About 200 adults with pancreatic cancer will receive one dose of the tracer and then be scanned. The goal is to see if this scan is more accurate than current methods at finding metastatic disease, which could help doctors plan better treatments.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- [18F]FAPI-74 (radioactive diagnostic agent for PET imaging)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this scan could help doctors more accurately detect whether pancreatic cancer has spread, leading to better treatment decisions.
- What could go wrong
- This is still an experimental scan, and it may not prove more accurate than current methods. The trial is relatively small (200 people) and results may not apply to all patients.
