Freezing nerves to fight surgery pain: could it get kids home faster?

NCT ID NCT05731973

Summary

This study tested a new way to manage pain after a common surgery to correct a sunken chest (pectus excavatum). It compared freezing the nerves between the ribs (cryoablation) against the standard pain control method (an epidural) in 50 patients aged 12-24. The main goal was to see if the new method could help patients leave the hospital sooner after their operation.
