New hope for 'Suicide Disease' pain? experimental drug enters Late-Stage testing

Summary
This study is testing whether a daily pill called basimglurant can reduce the severe, shock-like facial pain caused by trigeminal neuralgia in adults who don't get enough relief from their current pain medications. About 166 participants will first take the drug for 8 weeks, then some will be randomly switched to a placebo for 12 weeks to see if the pain returns, followed by a year-long open period where everyone can take the drug. The main goals are to see if the drug safely reduces pain frequency and intensity and if the benefit lasts.
