One pill vs. a shot: race for a simpler gonorrhea cure

NCT ID NCT03959527

Summary

This large, completed Phase 3 trial tested whether a single oral dose of a new antibiotic, zoliflodacin, works as well as the current standard treatment (a shot plus a pill) for uncomplicated gonorrhea. Over 1,000 participants with gonorrhea were randomly assigned to receive either the new single pill or the standard combination treatment. The main goal was to see if the new pill could clear the bacterial infection as effectively as the current therapy.
