Fight against 'Relapsing' malaria gets new weapon in PNG trial

NCT ID NCT05874271

Summary

This study tested a new way to treat a type of malaria that can hide in the liver and cause people to get sick again. Researchers gave patients a higher dose of an existing drug (primaquine) over a shorter time, but first checked them for a genetic condition that makes the drug risky. The goal was to see if this faster treatment is safe, works well, and can be practically used in local health clinics in Papua New Guinea.
