Breakthrough malaria cure strategy tested on hundreds

NCT ID NCT05874271

Summary

This study tested a new way to completely cure vivax malaria, a type that can hide in the liver and cause people to get sick again. Researchers first gave patients a simple finger-prick test to check for a genetic condition that makes the standard cure drug dangerous. For those who were safe to take it, they received a shorter, higher-dose treatment to see if it worked better and if people were more likely to finish it. The goal was to see if this whole new process was practical and safe to use in real health clinics.
