BioNTech launches major lung cancer trial testing new treatment against standard care

Summary

This large Phase 3 trial is testing whether a new drug called pumitamig (BNT327), when added to standard chemotherapy, works better than the current standard treatment (atezolizumab plus chemotherapy) for people newly diagnosed with extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer. The study will enroll 621 participants across multiple sites and will compare how long patients live and how long their cancer stays under control. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the new combination or the standard treatment, and neither they nor their doctors will know which treatment they're getting.
