New heart procedure aims to stop strokes without metal implants

NCT ID NCT07278869

Summary

This early study is testing a new catheter-based procedure that closes off a small pouch in the heart called the left atrial appendage. The goal is to reduce stroke risk in people with atrial fibrillation without leaving a permanent metal implant behind. Doctors will thread a device through blood vessels to fold and tie off the pouch, then follow patients for up to 5 years to check safety and effectiveness.
