Protein bars and olive oil could revolutionize gallbladder testing
NCT ID NCT07321431
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing a new method to measure how well the gallbladder contracts, using protein bars and olive oil instead of a fatty meal. Researchers will compare this to the standard fried-egg test in 120 healthy volunteers. The goal is to find the best time to take ultrasound measurements after eating, to make gallbladder function testing more reliable and consistent.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
oral protein bars + 50ml olive oil
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a simpler, standardized way to assess gallbladder function, potentially improving diagnosis of gallbladder disorders.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study in healthy volunteers, so results may not apply to people with gallbladder disease. The method may not be reliable or comfortable for all patients.
