New surgical tool spares gallbladders, cuts complications in landmark study

NCT ID NCT04406961

Summary

This study tested a new, more precise surgical technique (ASD) against the standard method during ERCP procedures, which are used to treat gallstones and other bile duct blockages. Over 1,500 patients participated to see if the new method caused fewer complications like bleeding, pancreatitis, or perforation. A key finding was that the new technique helped most patients with gallstones avoid having their gallbladder removed later.
