One needle instead of two: study aims to save dialysis patients from painful procedures

NCT ID NCT07372027

Summary

This study is testing a new way to connect kidney failure patients to their dialysis machines. Instead of the standard method of using two needles in the same fragile blood vessel access point, this technique uses only one needle there and returns the cleaned blood through a vein in the foot. Researchers hope this gentler approach will protect the patient's vital blood vessel access, reduce the need for painful repair surgeries, and lower healthcare costs over a three-year study with about 100 participants.
