New hope for esophageal cancer: triple therapy enters major trial

NCT ID NCT07251062

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a new combination of drugs for people with advanced or metastatic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who have not had prior treatment. The experimental therapy includes SYS6010 (a targeted antibody-drug conjugate) plus SG001 (an immunotherapy), with or without standard chemotherapy. The trial aims to see if this combo shrinks tumors and extends survival. About 737 participants will be enrolled across multiple centers.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

SYS6010 (an antibody-drug conjugate targeting EGFR) combined with SG001 (an anti-PD-1 immunotherapy), with or without chemotherapy (5-FU or capecitabine)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a new first-line treatment option for advanced esophageal cancer, potentially improving tumor shrinkage and survival.

What could go wrong

This is an early-to-mid-stage trial (phase 2/3) with no results yet. Side effects from the drug combination may be significant, and the treatment may not work better than existing therapies.
