Carbon fiber vs. steel: a new hope for stronger chests after heart surgery
NCT ID NCT07366203
Summary
This study is testing a new medical device made of carbon fiber (called SC03 plates) designed to close the breastbone after open-heart surgery. Researchers want to see if these plates are safer and lead to a more stable chest bone one month after surgery compared to the current standard method using stainless steel wires. About 190 adult patients having this type of surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either the new plates or the standard wires and will be followed for six months.
