Blood test breakthrough could end diagnostic confusion for bleeding disorders

NCT ID NCT07298733

Summary

This study aims to find a better way to tell apart two similar conditions that cause low platelets and bleeding risk: primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and low platelets caused by lupus (SLE). Researchers will test blood samples from 300 adults to see if measuring levels of two specific proteins (IL-1β and IL-33) can act as a clear diagnostic signpost. The goal is to help doctors make the right diagnosis faster, so patients can get the most appropriate treatment sooner.
