Nerve stretching may ease chronic ankle pain and instability

NCT ID NCT05090423

First seen Jan 16, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looked at whether adding nerve-focused exercises (neurodynamic intervention) to standard care helps people with chronic ankle instability. About 40% of ankle sprains lead to ongoing pain, repeated sprains, and a feeling of the ankle giving way. The researchers measured changes in pain sensitivity, ankle motion, balance, and self-reported function in 36 participants. The goal was to see if these exercises could reduce nerve sensitivity and improve daily life.
