Zap the ankle, save the kidneys? swiss trial aims to prevent devastating spinal injury complication

Summary

This Swiss study is testing if a gentle, non-invasive electrical stimulation applied to the ankle can prevent serious bladder damage in people who have recently suffered a spinal cord injury. About 114 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the real stimulation or a sham (fake) treatment for 6-9 weeks. The main goal is to see if this early intervention can stop the development of overactive bladder contractions that can lead to kidney failure.
