New nerve blocks aim to cut opioid use after spine surgery

NCT ID NCT06851533

Summary

This study is comparing two different nerve block techniques to see which one is better at reducing the need for strong opioid painkillers after a common back surgery. Researchers will give 90 patients having lumbar microdiscectomy either a Thoracolumbar Interfascial Plane (TLIP) block or a Quadro Iliac Plane Block. The main goal is to see which block helps patients use fewer opioids in the first 24 hours after surgery, which could mean fewer side effects like nausea and a faster recovery.
