Nerve block showdown: which technique cuts hernia surgery pain best?
NCT ID NCT07676123
First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial compares two types of nerve blocks—Quadratus Lumborum and Ilioinguinal-Iliohypogastric—given before laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair. The goal is to see which block reduces the need for opioid painkillers during surgery and lowers the risk of long-term pain afterward. Adults having their first hernia repair and without chronic pain are eligible.
What this could mean

Active substance
bupivacaine
What this could lead to
If one block proves better, it could become the standard for reducing pain and opioid use after hernia surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage comparison. Results may not apply to all patients, and individual responses to nerve blocks vary.
