Nerve block could shield hearts after major surgery

NCT ID NCT05932485

Summary

This study tested if a simple nerve block in the neck could prevent a common and serious irregular heartbeat that often occurs after heart bypass surgery. Researchers gave 108 patients undergoing bypass surgery either this nerve block or a standard treatment to see which group had fewer heart rhythm problems. The goal was to find a safe way to reduce complications, shorten hospital stays, and improve recovery for heart surgery patients.
