Heart surgery in first month of life may give babies with rare defect a better future

NCT ID NCT06822400

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tests whether operating within the first 28 days of life (neonatal repair) is safer and more effective than waiting until 3-6 months (infant repair) for babies born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a serious heart defect. About 160 full-term newborns weighing over 2.5 kg will be randomly assigned to one of the two surgery timings. The goal is to see if earlier surgery reduces complications, improves heart function, and leads to better long-term outcomes.
