Race to find better treatment for dangerous fungal infections in premature babies

NCT ID NCT02145832

Summary

This study compared two antifungal medications (fluconazole and micafungin) for treating suspected or confirmed fungal infections in newborns, particularly premature infants. Researchers tested whether micafungin works as well as the current standard treatment while also studying how these drugs behave in babies' developing bodies. The trial involved 100 newborns and aimed to find safer, more effective dosing strategies for these vulnerable patients.
