Simple neck strengthening could ease chronic pain

NCT ID NCT07179133

First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether adding a specific neck muscle strengthening exercise to standard neck training can reduce pain and improve movement in people with chronic neck pain. About 42 adults aged 18 to 35 with neck pain lasting over 3 months will be randomly assigned to either standard exercises alone or standard exercises plus the extra strengthening. Researchers will measure pain, range of motion, muscle strength, and disability over 4 weeks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Craniocervical flexion training and semispinalis cervicis strengthening exercises
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a better physical therapy approach for chronic neck pain, improving pain relief and neck function.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 42 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The exercises are safe but may not provide additional benefit over standard care.
