Brain's pain switch may predict neck pain treatment success
NCT ID NCT07194603
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study looked at 31 adults with mild chronic neck pain to see if a test called conditioned pain modulation (CPM) — which measures how well the brain naturally blocks pain — could predict how much they improved after a single neck mobilization. Participants received a gentle spinal adjustment and were followed for 4 weeks. The goal was to understand if baseline CPM or changes in CPM after treatment were linked to pain, disability, or perceived recovery. This was an observational study, not a treatment trial, so no new therapy was tested.
