Mist before tube: new study tests calming drug for intubation

Summary
This study tests if a mist of the drug dexmedetomidine, inhaled before a breathing tube is placed, can reduce stress reactions like a fast heart rate and high blood pressure. About 72 adults having planned surgery will take part. Half will get the drug mist, half will get a saltwater mist, and their heart and blood pressure will be checked after the tube is inserted.
