Breaking the nose spray cycle: study tests program to end rebound congestion
NCT ID NCT04898764
Summary
This study aimed to help people who are stuck in a cycle of overusing nasal decongestant sprays, which can cause worse congestion when the spray wears off (a condition called rhinitis medicamentosa). First, researchers examined 72 participants to understand if an underlying nasal condition was present. Then, they tested a 12-week program combining a prescription steroid nasal spray and counseling to help people safely stop using the decongestant sprays and manage their symptoms.
