New drug aims to prevent dangerous gut slowdown in brain injury patients

Summary
This study tests whether naloxegol, a drug that blocks opioid side effects in the gut without affecting pain relief in the brain, can prevent constipation and pneumonia in brain-injured patients in the ICU. About 370 adults with traumatic brain injury or bleeding around the brain who need strong painkillers and a breathing tube will take part. The goal is to see if giving naloxegol early can reduce serious complications and improve recovery.
