Supplement and exercise combo shows promise for rare neurological disease

NCT ID NCT04192136

First seen Apr 22, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tested whether taking an NAD+ precursor (a vitamin-like supplement called NR) combined with exercise training can improve aerobic capacity (how well the body uses oxygen during activity) and blood sugar control in people with Friedreich's ataxia. 75 participants aged 10 to 40 were randomly assigned to receive NR or a placebo, with or without exercise, for a set period. The goal was to see if this combination could help ease symptoms like fatigue and poor coordination.
