First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether inhaling a medicine called N-acetylcysteine (NAC) can prevent pneumonia in critically ill patients who need a breathing machine. About 80 adults on ventilators will receive either NAC or a placebo. Researchers will track how many develop pneumonia and how long it takes, along with other breathing and infection measures.
