First seen Feb 20, 2026 · Last updated May 03, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study tests whether inhaling a common medication called N-acetylcysteine (NAC) can prevent pneumonia in critically ill patients who need a breathing machine. About 80 adults on ventilators will receive either NAC or a placebo. The goal is to see if NAC reduces the number of pneumonia cases and shortens time on the ventilator.
