Battle of the lenses: which contact lens best fights childhood nearsightedness?

NCT ID NCT06148870

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This trial tests two different contact lenses designed to slow down the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children aged 6 to 11. Each child wears one type of lens on each eye for six months, then switches, so researchers can compare how well each lens controls eye growth and vision changes over a year. The goal is to find which lens is more effective at preventing eyesight from getting worse.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

special contact lenses (myopia control lenses)

What this could lead to

If one lens works better, it could offer a more effective way to slow down worsening nearsightedness in children, reducing their need for stronger glasses.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 children, so results may not apply to everyone. The lenses might not slow myopia significantly or could cause discomfort.
