Can a drop or lens stop Kids' eyesight from worsening?
NCT ID NCT06282848
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two approaches to control myopia (nearsightedness) in children aged 7 to 9: low-dose atropine eye drops and special glasses called DIMS lenses. Over 24 months, researchers will measure changes in vision and eye structure to see which treatment works better for different children. The goal is to find personalized ways to slow down how fast nearsightedness gets worse.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
0.05% atropine eye drops and DIMS (defocus incorporated multiple segments) spectacle lenses
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a clearer picture of which children benefit most from atropine drops or special glasses to slow down worsening nearsightedness.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (80 children) that measures eye changes over 24 months. It may not prove long-term effectiveness or apply to all children. Atropine drops can cause light sensitivity or blurry near vision.
