Vibrating muscles may ease Post-Stroke spasticity, early trial hopes

NCT ID NCT05315726

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether gentle muscle vibration can prevent or reduce spasticity (muscle stiffness) in people who recently had a stroke. The trial has two phases: first, it validates a measurement tool, then it compares vibration therapy to a placebo in 100 patients. The goal is to see if vibration improves arm function and brain plasticity during the critical early recovery window.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

muscle vibration

What this could lead to

If it works, this could provide a simple, non-drug therapy to reduce muscle stiffness and improve arm function soon after a stroke.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage study with no prior results in the acute phase. The vibration may not reduce spasticity more than placebo, and benefits may be small or short-lived.
