Zapping muscles to fight ICU weakness

NCT ID NCT06409611

Summary

This study is testing whether a treatment called neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) can help prevent severe muscle weakness in patients who are on breathing machines in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Researchers will compare a group receiving daily NMES sessions on their leg muscles for 10 days to a group that does not, using ultrasound to measure muscle changes. The goal is to see if this stimulation helps preserve muscle mass and strength, which could help patients recover faster.
