Scientists probe hidden causes of ICU Survivors' muscle loss
NCT ID NCT07329530
Summary
This study aims to understand why many patients who survive a serious illness in the intensive care unit (ICU) develop long-lasting muscle weakness. Researchers will compare 100 ICU survivors with patients who had major abdominal surgery to see if patterns of inflammation and metabolism can predict muscle recovery over three months. The study involves measuring muscle strength, taking small tissue samples, and does not test a new treatment.
