Scientists probe hidden cause of slow recovery after knee surgery

NCT ID NCT03051984

Summary

This study aimed to understand why leg muscles get smaller and weaker after knee replacement surgery, which slows down recovery. Researchers measured muscle changes in 23 patients with severe knee arthritis before and after their operation. They also tested whether using a device to stimulate the leg muscles with mild electricity could help prevent this muscle loss and improve strength.
