New study tests if scans can replace needle biopsies for lumps
NCT ID NCT07294248
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This observational study will check how well MRI and ultrasound can identify superficial soft tissue masses (lumps just under the skin). Researchers will compare the scan results with the final diagnosis to see how accurate the imaging is. The goal is to find a reliable, non-invasive way to diagnose these masses without always needing a biopsy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that MRI and ultrasound are reliable enough to diagnose these masses without needing a biopsy, making diagnosis faster and less invasive.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early observational study with only 50 participants. The results may not apply to all types of masses or all patients, and the imaging might still miss some details that a biopsy would catch.
