Can MRI scans predict radiation damage before it happens?

NCT ID NCT04265430

First seen Nov 15, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study uses MRI scans after radiation therapy to see if they can predict damage to healthy tissue in patients with mouth or skull base tumors. Researchers will track changes in the jawbone and other areas over time. The goal is to better understand and potentially prevent a condition called osteoradionecrosis, where bone tissue dies after radiation. About 425 adults who have had or will have radiation therapy will participate.
