New scan could spot hidden danger for unborn babies

NCT ID NCT02238301

Summary

This study tested whether a special type of MRI scan could be used as a safe, non-invasive tool to detect problems with the placenta. The scan measures how oxygen levels change in the placenta and baby when the mother breathes extra oxygen. Researchers compared scans from 101 pregnant women with normally growing babies to those with babies experiencing poor growth, to see if the scan could tell them apart and help diagnose the cause.
