Could a simple mouthguard calm a chaotic heart?

NCT ID NCT03835429

Summary

This small pilot study explored whether a custom dental appliance (a mouthpiece) could reduce episodes of atrial fibrillation (AFib) in people who also have sleep apnea. The idea was that by keeping the airway open during sleep, the device might reduce stress on the heart and nervous system that can trigger AFib. The study was terminated early after enrolling only three participants.
