Mind over pain: imagining core workouts eases back pain in moms of disabled kids

NCT ID NCT06981884

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study looked at whether adding motor imagery training (mentally practicing movements) to standard core exercises helps mothers of children with physical disabilities who have low back pain. Forty mothers participated, doing core exercises with or without 15 minutes of motor imagery training twice a week for two months. Researchers measured pain, disability, body awareness, quality of life, and anxiety to see if the imagery training provided extra benefits.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

core stabilization exercises and motor imagery training

What this could lead to

If this approach works, it could offer a simple, drug-free way to ease back pain and improve daily life for mothers caring for children with disabilities.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The improvements seen might be due to the core exercises alone, not the added imagery training.
