Mind over back pain: study tests video therapy for relief
NCT ID NCT07237724
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether adding action observation therapy—watching short exercise videos—to standard core exercises can reduce pain, improve function, and enhance sleep in people with non-specific low back pain. Forty-two adults with chronic low back pain will be split into two groups: one doing core exercises alone, the other doing core exercises plus watching exercise videos before each session. The goal is to see if this simple mental technique can make physical therapy more effective.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
action observation therapy (watching exercise videos) plus core exercises
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost way to boost the benefits of standard back exercises.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 42 participants. The added benefit of watching exercise videos may be minimal, and results may not apply to everyone with back pain.
