Fin type may change Swimmers' leg muscles and injury risk

NCT ID NCT07621913

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at how using a single large fin (monofin) versus two fins (bi-fins) affects leg muscles and joint flexibility in young swimmers aged 12-18. Researchers will measure muscle stiffness, elasticity, and joint range of motion in 42 healthy swimmers who train regularly. The goal is to understand differences that could help coaches design safer training and reduce injury risk.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could help coaches design safer, more effective training programs for swimmers using different fin types.

What could go wrong

This is a small observational study with only 42 participants, so findings may not apply to all swimmers. It measures physical traits, not treatment outcomes.
